Sinterability, Mechanical Properties and Wear Behavior of Ti3SiC2 and Cr2AlC MAX Phases

MAX phases are a promising family of materials for several demanding, high-temperature applications and severe conditions. Their combination metallic ceramic properties makes great candidates to be applied in energy production processes, such as high temperature heat exchangers catalytic devices. For their successful application, however, the effect processing method on wear mechanical behavior needs further established. In this work, self-synthesized Ti3SiC2 Cr2AlC phase powders consolidated by different powder metallurgy routes evaluated. Uniaxial pressing sintering, cold isostatic sintering hot were explored routes, samples characterized analyzing microstructure, constitution porosity. Wear was studied reciprocating-sliding tests, evaluating rate loss material mechanism.
